Presentation of Research Project as part of the Master Thesis Colloquium

Hey you curious people,

thank you for taking the time to tune in and check out what I’ve been working on –

Questions and Challenges:

(1) How do I pick the right stakeholders?

(2) How much (thematic) information should be given to interviewees beforehand?

(3) Do you consider this research as interventional (to the system)?

(4) What about possible cascade scenarios e.g. lack of water volume in sewer mains –> need for additional water to keep old system running or find new ways to dispose of other waste or don’t create any waste in the first place (ideal) ?

(5) Where will the cover material for the toilets come from? Will this put pressure on other resources such as straw or wood chips?

(6) What would a hybrid sanitation system look like? / What is the minimum of water is needed to keep the current sanitation system and waste water treatment plant running?

Personal:

(1)How can I stay motivated and “get shi* done” in front of a screen? How can I find a team?

(2)How can I integrate my creative and sensual living self into this work?

with the help from my Loop the Poop Support Group, which you are invited to join, if you feel called to. I am happy to have regular and small group thought exchanges and brainstorms happening. And also: I am looking for someone to team up with on my research and thesis @students of GCM and the Community Planning Master! Please don’t hesitate to reach out. :)

The presentation provides an overview of where I am at with the research progress, including how I got there, challenges and open questions which are an invitation for hearing your thoughts and feedback.

Due to the time zone differences the presentation was held in the middle of the night.;)

The presentation was held on May 4, 2022 as part of our Master Thesis Colloquium studying Global Change Management MSc at the Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development, Germany. Currently I am a Visiting Graduate Research Student at Vancouver Island University with the Mount Arrowsmith Biosphere Region Research Institute on Vancouver Island in BC, Canada. I will have time to collect the data for the research at least until the end of September.

I am thankful for your feedback. :)

Warmly from Nanaimo,
